Documents to present
- A valid driving licence. If your licence is not written in Latin or Arabic script, an international driving permit is recommended as well.
- Proof of identity: passport or national ID card.
- A means of payment for the insurance excess.

Minimum age and driving experience

The insurance excess

Key driving rules in Morocco
- Drive on the right, as in most of Europe.
- Speed limits: generally 120 km/h on motorways, 100 km/h on roads and 60 km/h in built-up areas, unless otherwise signposted. Always follow the signs.
- Speed cameras and police checks: they are frequent, on motorways and at city entrances. Always keep the car’s papers and your licence to hand.
- Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, front and rear.
- No phone use while driving, except with a hands-free kit.
- Alcohol: tolerance is very low. The safest choice is not to drink at all before driving.
- Tolls: Moroccan motorways are toll roads. Keep a way to pay, especially on the Casablanca–Rabat or Casablanca–Marrakech routes.

- Stay alert at roundabouts and watch out for the many scooters and motorbikes in town.
