Casablanca is a city best explored by car. Its main sights are spread out, from the Hassan II Mosque to the Corniche, the city centre and the Habous quarter, and a rental car lets you see everything at your own pace without relying on taxis. Here are the city’s must-sees and our one-day itinerary for exploring Casablanca by car.

Must-see places to visit by car
The Hassan II Mosque
Partly built over the ocean, it is Casablanca’s iconic landmark and one of the largest mosques in the world. It is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims, through guided tours. Opening times vary by day and during Ramadan, so check them before you go. There is parking close to the esplanade.
The Ain Diab Corniche and El Hank lighthouse
This long seafront boulevard is perfect by car: beaches, cafés, ocean-view restaurants and beach clubs. On the way, drive past the El Hank lighthouse. At the end of the Corniche, the shrine of Sidi Abderrahmane sits on a rock you can reach on foot at low tide. It is the ideal spot for the sunset.
The city centre and its Art Deco architecture
Around Mohammed V Square and Boulevard Mohammed V, Casablanca has a remarkable Art Deco and neo-Moorish heritage. Don’t miss the former Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Arab League Park, the green heart of the city. Here, use an underground car park and continue on foot.
The Habous quarter
Nicknamed the “new medina”, this neat neighbourhood is great for crafts, spices, books and Moroccan pastries. It is calmer and easier to reach by car than the old medina.
The old medina and the Sqala
Near the port, the old medina keeps its lively alleys and ramparts. The Sqala bastion, now a restaurant, makes a lovely stop. The streets are narrow, so park nearby and walk in.
Anfa, the Marina and the shopping malls
The residential Anfa district, the Marina near the Hassan II Mosque and large malls such as the Morocco Mall, close to the Corniche, round off your visit. They have big car parks, which makes them easy by car.
Our one-day itinerary by car
- Morning: start with the Hassan II Mosque, before the crowds and traffic, then take a stroll around the Marina.
- Late morning: head to the city centre. Park near Mohammed V Square and explore the Art Deco buildings and the Arab League Park on foot.
- Lunch: eat at the Sqala or in the centre, then wander through the old medina.
- Afternoon: the Habous quarter for souvenirs and pastries, then Anfa.
- Evening: the Ain Diab Corniche and the sunset near the Sidi Abderrahmane shrine, followed by dinner by the ocean.
Our tips for driving and parking
- Avoid rush hours, in the morning and late afternoon, especially in the centre.
- Use Google Maps or Waze: GPS is included free with our rentals.
- Choose supervised car parks near the sights and keep a few dirhams for street parking attendants.
- Pick the right car: a city car for town, an SUV if you then head out onto Morocco’s roads.
